Ten years after the last meeting in Groningen, The Netherlands, this important event for all researchers, naturalists and ornithologists dedicated to studying owls finally returns. The World Owl Conference 2017 will take place at the university city of Évora, inside its UNESCO World Heritage Centre, filled with historical buildings and surrounded by a breathtaking landscape – the perfect combination of a large scientific conference and a great cultural experience.
Located in the Province of Alentejo, Évora has over 50 000 inhabitants, being the largest city in the region. Évora has a central geographical location, within 1h40 from Lisbon and 3h00 from Faro airports, being connected to all regions of the country by its transportation network. With a typical Mediterranean climate, average temperatures in September range 16–27°C.
The conference will take place at the Colégio do Espírito Santo, University of Évora, a remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Building from the XVI century. Located in the heart of the town, enclosed by its fortress wall, the venue is within walking distance from most hotels.
The speakers, their families and friends are invited to come to Évora and discover a city full of secret corners, with its monuments, traditional commerce and vivid cultural agenda, offering varied leisure options – from a morning visit to the city park to a night-time indulgence at one of the city bars, probably with some owl encounters on the way.
